Member schools have access to two of the most practical and classroom-ready teaching resources in Australian music education.
Gig Based Learning immerses students in authentic music making, while Soundlab develops the production and engineering knowledge to take their work further, complemented by a growing collection of resources from leading Australian and international music education partners.
Gig Based Learning (GBL) is a practical, performance-driven approach to music education. Instead of learning skills “just in case,” students prepare for real musical outcomes: a gig. Through performing, composing and listening, learning becomes purposeful, collaborative and authentic. Each gig provides a clear goal, with skills and knowledge developed in context and applied in real time.
Soundlab is a practical, classroom-ready resource for teaching the core principles of music production and sound engineering. Lessons combine audio, guided instruction, and quizzes to build knowledge progressively, with no specialist teaching background required. It connects naturally into Gig Based Learning extension material, and underpins our Music Technology Short Courses for teachers.
Music EDnet membership gives your whole team access to a rich and growing professional development program.
Watch and learn from 40 plus DayTime conference sessions, deepen your GBL practice with dedicated training content, and access practical short courses that lead to nationally recognised credentials.
All designed around the realities of teaching music in Australian schools.
