Elements makes real-world music production using Soundtrap accessible for all students with customized learning paths for late elementary, middle, and high school
Music EDnet are proud to announce the launch of “Electronic Music Elements” for Australian and New Zealand schools.
Available exclusively through Music EDnet, Electronic Music Elements is a curriculum that removes the barriers of traditional composition to make authentic music production accessible for all students.
This course is uniquely tailored for grades 4-12 and emphasises non-performance-based music creation using the DAW, Soundtrap.
Elements makes real-world music production using Soundtrap accessible for all students with customized learning paths for upper primary, middle, and secondary school.
With hands-on projects, flexible sequencing, and built-in teacher support, Elements provides everything educators need to bring modern music creation into the classroom.
Electronic Music Elements 1 comprises sixteen projects that guide students from thinking about music like a DJ to creating original material from scratch. It provides scaffolded creative experiences that use Soundtrap’s non-performance-based tools so students can create with intention and authenticity. Each lesson includes classroom-facing lesson pages, student-facing project pages, lesson plans, rubrics, and self-assessment documents—developed by industry professionals and education experts—making it engaging for students and easy for teachers to implement.
We can all agree that giving students a tactile way to interact with the elements of music fosters a meaningful connection. The ELEMENTS Looper lets students become live electronic performers and experience how blending drums (energy), bass (power), chords (emotion), and melody (identity) over time can change how a listener feels the music.
Many careers require creative applications of audio and music. Providing students with opportunities to engage in these applications through real-world projects helps build engagement and connect their learning to other disciplines. The Career Connections projects in ELEMENTS give students hands-on experience with music and audio in video games, film, podcasting, commercials, and songwriting.
As part of the 2025 Daytime conference, Bob Habersat and Eric Jao (Creators of Elements) gave a presentation on the importance of music production education and how teachers can engage in creative music making with no experience. Go through the different activities with the presenters as if you were a participant yourself and discover how non-performance based music production could unlock not only your own creative potential, but also your students.
The student songwriting workshop is a series of timed activities focused on collaboration and building confidence in lyric writing. The activities are presented on a Soundtrap page that walks students through forming a band, getting to know one another, and completing three songwriting prompts that gradually increase responsibility in the creative process. Students begin by creating a lyric remix of ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepsen using an instrumental in the Soundtrap studio. Next, they topline a verse over a track they create with Soundtrap’s Songstarter loops. Finally, bands compose original choruses from scratch using the chord triggers and drum sequencer. This page is ideal for launching a songwriting unit or for use as an icebreaker activity in an ensemble.
At the heart of ShedTheMusic is Bob Habersat, a former choir director turned high school guitar, music production, and theory teacher. He’s the author and driving force behind the Shed’s commercial music curricula—ranging from guitar fundamentals and music technology to theory and podcasting—designed to make music learning exciting and student-centered
One of Bob’s signature offerings, Electronic Music Elements, exemplifies his innovative approach. Co-developed in partnership with Eric Jao (also known as Mix Major or DJ Enferno), this curriculum removes traditional barriers to composition by using Soundtrap to make modern music production accessible and engaging for students in grades 4–12. Through hands-on projects, curriculum flexibility, and strong teacher support, it bridges music education and industry relevance—empowering creativity beyond performance ensembles.
Together, Bob and Eric not only created this forward-thinking curriculum but also lead free online workshops that allow educators to work directly with them. These workshops focus on implementing music production classes, fostering creativity with Soundtrap, earning professional development credits, and connecting within a growing community of innovative educators.
Registration is for teachers, schools, colleges and universities only.
